Acclaimed composer and actor GV Prakash has unveiled his latest project, Rebel, a politically charged film exploring Tamil rights within a Kerala setting. Based on a true experience, the film promises a gripping narrative that is already generating anticipation within the industry.

The recently released Rebel trailer introduces GV Prakash as Kathiresan, a Tamil student from Munnar who pursues higher education in Palakkad. Falling for Mamitha’s captivating Malayali character, their romance faces turmoil as a fight erupts between Tamilians and locals. What begins as a college dispute spirals into violence, fueled by meddling politicians and police. Kathiresan’s journey to confront these forces and rise as a rebel leader forms the heart of the film.

The Rebel music launch event drew widespread attention, with notable figures voicing support for the film and its star. Director Pa Ranjith praised Kumar, stating “[He] is a very, very good-hearted person. He still has a lot to conquer and do a lot of good.” Producer KE Gnanavel Raja added his endorsement, noting “This year will be a very good year for him [Kumar]…Rebel is a dream of director Nikesh. He has given a wonderful film with the Rebel GV [Prakash] of Indian cinema.”

GV Prakash himself expressed his confidence and passion for the project: “This protagonist champions Tamil rights, crafting a compelling story that I’m confident audiences will appreciate…A powerful movie about Tamil rights, you all will definitely like this movie.”

Debut director Nikesh R.S. helms Rebel, which introduces Malayalam actress Mamita Baiju to Tamil cinema, following her successful role in Premalu. The film draws inspiration from true incidents, promising an action-packed and thought-provoking exploration of its central themes. KE Gnanavel Raja produces the project under his Studio Green banner, with GV Prakash also composing the film’s score.

Rebel is set for a worldwide theatrical release on March 22nd.
