KADUVETTI – REVIEW

Cast: RK Suresh

Director: Solai Arumugam

Inspired by the life of a controversial Tamil Nadu politician, Kaduvetti attempts to explore the complexities of love and caste in contemporary society. The film juxtaposes two contrasting narratives: a smooth-sailing urban romance and a rural love story fraught with caste-based oppression. The film aims to do well, but falls short in its execution.

Sangeerthana and Akilan convincingly portray the central couple navigating societal pressures in the rural setting. Subramaniya Siva delivers a powerful performance, and RK Suresh is adequate as an activist advocating for women‘s safety and inter-caste marriage.

However, the film suffers from a disjointed narrative and logical inconsistencies. Muted dialogues further hamper the viewing experience. Director Solai Arumugam attempts to tackle numerous pertinent issues, including honor killings, caste politics, and manipulation, but struggles to weave them into a cohesive plot.

Ultimately, Kaduvetti‘s noble intentions are overshadowed by its narrative shortcomings. The performances are strong, but the film is flat.
