A new music video titled Inimel, featuring actress-musician Shruti Haasan and filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, was released on Monday. The video, produced by Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran under Raajkamal Films International, marks Kanagaraj‘s acting debut.
Composed and conceptualized by Shruti Haasan, with lyrics penned by her father, Kamal Haasan, Inimel depicts the complexities of a contemporary romantic relationship. The video showcases the couple, played by Haasan and Kanagaraj, navigating the highs and lows of love, from their initial meeting through a dating app to envisioning a future together.
During a movie date, the couple experiences a surreal moment where they witness potential challenges and conflicts within their future marriage play out on the big screen. Despite this unsettling glimpse, they ultimately choose to remain committed to each other, leaving the question of their future open to interpretation.
During the launch, Shruti Haasan said about the song: “Inimel was originally written as an English song, and even at that time I realized that I wanted to write about relationships. Like, how they move in a loop, with its ups and downs and in-betweens. As time went on, I felt it needed to be a Tamil song. Dad [Kamal] then entered and wrote all the lyrics.” Lokesh Kanagaraj was a bit more humble, stating: “it’s not like I had a lot of acting ambitions. But when Shruti and the director approached me and narrated the story, I felt convinced that I’d be a good fit for this video. I have always been a huge admirer of Kamal sir, and I was very excited to lend visuals to his voice.”
Inimel has garnered positive responses from fans, with praise for Shruti Haasan‘s musicality and Kamal Haasan‘s lyrics. Lokesh Kanagaraj‘s performance in his acting debut has also been well-received.
This collaboration follows the success of the film Vikram, directed by Kanagaraj and featuring Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
Both Shruti Haasan and Lokesh Kanagaraj have several upcoming projects. Haasan will be seen in the films Dacoit and Chennai Story, while Kanagaraj is set to direct Rajinikanth in the highly anticipated Thalaivar 171.
