Debutant director Rahul Kabali, along with the cast and crew of his upcoming crime thriller Bayamariya Brammai, met with the press to discuss the film and its unique approach to storytelling. The film features a strong ensemble cast, including newcomer JD, Guru Somasundaram, John Vijay, Harish Uttaman, Vinod Sagar, and Vishwanth, among others.

“This is my first film,” Kabali shared. “We made this film by thinking about what we could do as a team, considering our skills and qualifications and what we could achieve within a particular story. So, I want to thank everyone who worked on this film.” He acknowledged the challenges involved in making the film, stating, “I put the crew through a lot emotionally, but everyone worked enthusiastically.”

Music director K, known for his experimental approach, praised the film’s unique narrative and the creative freedom he was given. “The story of the film is the reason I agreed to work on it,” he explained. “You will feel this when you see the songs and the teaser. This movie is different from typical films. We need to support such experimental efforts. The film gave me a chance to experiment, and the director and crew gave me complete freedom.”

He further highlighted Kabali’s artistic background and its influence on the film, saying, “Director Rahul Kabali is a painter. He has translated his painting experience into the scenes in this film. This work is his honest and genuine effort.”

Actor Vishwanth shared an anecdote from the film’s production that showcased Kabali’s meticulous approach to filmmaking. “The shooting took place on a set designed to look like a theater in Pondicherry,” Vishwanth recalled. “I usually get my scenes right in the first or second take. But after the first shot, which lasted five and a half minutes, the director called cut. I thought the shot was okay, but Guru Somasundaram suggested we shoot it again. The next take went to six and a half minutes, then eight minutes, then nine and a half minutes. None of them satisfied the director. Finally, the take went on for fifteen minutes straight. That’s what the director wanted. Guru Somasundaram and I acted in a single take for fifteen minutes. I am grateful to the director for this experience. He had planned the scene so meticulously. When you see this on screen, it will be a new approach, something never done before in Tamil cinema.”

Actor Vinod Sagar described his experience of being a “sudden groom” for the film, receiving a call late one night and being asked to arrive directly on set the next morning. He commended the film’s cast and crew, stating, “All the actors in this movie are familiar to the audience. A skilled technical team has worked on it. There are a lot of long takes, and the actors were trained to perform them. This film will offer a new experience to the fans.”

Bayamariya Brammai promises to be a unique crime thriller, pushing the boundaries of conventional Tamil cinema. The film is expected to release soon, with the team hoping for a positive reception.
