The highly anticipated film Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan and directed by Shankar, is set to release on July 12. The sequel to the 1996 hit Indian brings back Kamal’s iconic character, now facing new challenges in contemporary India.

At a recent press conference in Chennai, Kamal spoke about the film’s journey. “There were many hiccups during the shooting of this film,” he said. “We faced numerous challenges, but the encouragement from all the artists is what drives me.”

Director Shankar emphasized the film’s scope, noting that it was shot in multiple states across India. “Though Indian was set in Tamil Nadu, it’s an all-India story. Hence we shot Indian 2 in over 26 states,” he explained. Shankar also praised the advancements in prosthetic makeup since the first film, allowing for a more nuanced performance from Haasan. “You can see Kamal sir’s acting better,” he said.

Actor Siddharth, who joins the cast for the sequel, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. “It’s a great privilege to act with Kamal sir,” he said. “This movie will be a complete film that speaks to the true face of corruption.”

Indian 2 is produced by Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies, with reports suggesting a substantial budget. The film features an ensemble cast including Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, and SJ Surya.

Kamal hinted at the film’s ambitious nature, stating, “Shankar has made this film in such a grand manner. All the artists and stars have worked hard and created with full enthusiasm.”

The film will be released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu (as Bharateeyudu 2), and Hindi (as “Hindustani 2”).
