Director Chimbudevan’s upcoming film Boat, starring comedian Yogi Babu, is set to release on August 2. The film, which takes place primarily at sea, faced numerous challenges during its production.

At a recent press conference in Chennai, Chimbudevan detailed the film’s ambitious shooting process. “We faced many technical challenges,” he said. “If a wave comes, all our efforts will be in vain. There will be a lot of variation in sunlight before completing a scene.”

The film, set against the backdrop of World War II in 1943, explores a little-known chapter of Indian history. Chimbudevan explained, “According to history, 2.5 million Indians died in World War II. This information inspired me to create a story about the Second World War.”

Yogi Babu, the film’s lead actor, kept his comments brief, focusing on the collective effort behind the production. “The reason why Boat movie has been made so well is director Chimbudevan,” he said. “The movie has been made with hard work.”

Cinematographer Madhesh Manickam faced unique challenges shooting on water. Chimbudevan noted, “It took four days to get a rhythm between us and the ocean.”

Music composer Ghibran described the unexpected difficulties in scoring the film. “When I saw the footage, not knowing where to end and where to continue, I contacted Chimbudevan,” he said. “Usually the transitions help the composer. But in this film, there was confusion as to where to start and where to end.”

The film also stars Gouri Kishan, who spoke about the unconventional shooting experience. “If you sit inside the boat for shooting, that’s it. We don’t get a chance to adjust our makeup until the shooting is over,” she said.

Boat is produced by Maali & Manvi Movie Makers and Chimbudevan Entertainment.
