The music launch of Thangalaan, starring Vikram and directed by Pa. Ranjith, was held in Chennai, marking a significant moment in the film’s timeline. The event, which featured performances by dancers and folk artists, provided insights into the film’s themes and production.

Director Pa. Ranjith, known for his socially conscious filmmaking, emphasized the movie’s attempt to explore hidden histories. “Cinema is a powerful medium,” Ranjith said. “I decided to use this powerful social media as a tool to easily convey the untold or hidden history to the masses.”

Vikram, who plays the titular role, described Thangalaan as “the most important film in my life.” He highlighted the physical demands of the role, stating, “Everyone knows that I worked hard in films like Sethu, Pithamagan, Anniyan, I and Raavanan. But all these pictures made me suffer a lot. But these are very few compared to Thangalaan.”

The film, which also stars Parvathy and Malavika Mohanan, explores themes of leadership, family, and the pursuit of freedom. Vikram elaborated on his character, saying, “Thangalaan is a leader… he is a player. He has a goal. He wants to give his people gold or freedom.”

Producer Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green, who has previously worked with Vikram on Thandavam, expressed confidence in the project. “This film will be the best gold for him. I pray to God that this movie will be the biggest hit of this year,” he said.

Music director G.V. Prakash Kumar spoke about his approach to the film’s score, stating, “I have tried to honestly record the life and music of the tribal people.”

Thangalaan is set for a worldwide release on August 15 in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film’s release date, coinciding with India’s Independence Day, appears deliberate given its themes of freedom and historical exploration.
