ABC Talkies, an open-access film streaming platform, announced the fourth edition of its Big Shorts Challenge, focusing on Tamil filmmakers. The announcement, made at a press conference in Chennai on October 3, 2024, comes as part of the company’s efforts to broaden its regional presence and support independent cinema.

Shalibhadra Shah, Founder and CEO of ABC Talkies, described the initiative as “more than just a competition.” He stated, “By giving talented voices from Tamil Nadu the platform they deserve, we are fostering creativity without borders and helping them leap into the spotlight.”

The challenge, open for submissions from October 3 to November 10, 2024, offers participants a prize pool of Rs 2,00,000. Winners will be announced on January 15, 2025, with awards for the Most Watched Film and the Highest Grossing Film.

ABC Talkies also introduced actress Sakshi Agarwal as a new Advisory Board Member and Regional Brand Ambassador. Agarwal expressed her commitment to the platform’s mission, saying, “I am deeply honored to join ABC Talkies, a platform that empowers young filmmakers and breathes new life into the world of independent cinema.”

The company has secured partnerships to expand its distribution network. A collaboration with Hungama Digital Media will extend ABC Talkies’ reach to platforms such as Airtel Xstream and Tata Play. Additionally, a partnership with Cpics TV aims to introduce the platform’s content to North American audiences. Unlike major players such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, the platform focuses exclusively on independent filmmakers, allowing them to upload and monetize their work directly.

The Big Shorts Challenge – Tamil Edition is supported by several local partners, including Sakshi Studios, Shot2Shot Film and Entertainment, and SGR Film Factory.
