CV Kumar Productions and Thangam Cinemas have announced their latest venture Soodhu Kavvum 2, directed by S.J. Arjun, scheduled for theatrical release on December 13. The film serves as both a prequel and sequel to the 2013 cult hit Soodhu Kavvum.
“The story spans from the 1990s through 2013 and into 2024,” said producer CV Kumar, who revealed that the film is part of a planned trilogy. “The third installment will be titled ‘Soodhu Kavvum – Dharmam Vellum’ (Good Triumphs).”
Mirchi Siva, who plays the character Gurunath, expressed initial hesitation about joining a sequel. “When I first heard about ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’, I wondered why they were making a sequel to such a good film. But after hearing the script, I was convinced by how my character intersects with the narrative.”
The film features an ensemble cast including Karunakaran, MS Baskar, Radha Ravi, Aruldoss, and Vagai Chandrasekhar. “This is my hundredth film,” noted Karunakaran, who previously worked with CV Kumar in numerous projects. “He has always trusted new talent, from directors to actors.”
Director S.J. Arjun, who previously contributed to films like Mundasupatti and Ratsasan, spent three years developing the screenplay. The film’s music is composed by newcomers Edwin Louis Viswanath and Hari, with cinematography by Karthik Thillai.
