A clutch of industry veterans lined up to endorse debutant actor Dev and first-time feature director S. Sam at the trailer and music launch of Yolo, a rom-com with a fantasy streak produced by MR Motion Pictures and slated to open on 12 September.
“I was told, ‘we want a newcomer — you fit,’” Dev said, recalling his casting. “I loved the story immediately. My parents and uncle are no longer with me, and I believe this happened with their blessings.” The film’s title expands to “You Only Live Once,” a sentiment that shaped the evening’s mood.

Director S. Sam, who has assisted filmmakers Ameer and Samuthirakani, said their influence was practical rather than stylistic. “From Ameer sir I learned not to waste a producer’s money, and from Samuthirakani sir to never let a moment go idle,” he said. “That gave me the courage to make a film with newcomers. Yolo is a youthful entertainment — romance, comedy, and a bit of fantasy — and we’ve made it to satisfy audiences.”
Producer Mahesh Selvaraj of MR Motion Pictures positioned the project as a bet on fresh faces and a tightly run production. “We are near the finish line now,” he said, thanking senior directors for guidance and calling special attention to cinematographer Sooraj Nallusami’s work. The film will be distributed by Generous Entertainment.

Composer Sagishna Xavier noted that the soundtrack carries six songs. “For a growing composer, six tracks in one film is significant,” he said, thanking his collaborators, including sound engineer Kibi. TrendLoud’s Jitesh said the label had acquired all six songs and described the album as varied.
Veteran directors Ameer and Samuthirakani offered pointed endorsements while keeping expectations in check. “Many assistants pass through, but few succeed. Sam is one of them,” Ameer said, adding that the trailer suggested the director had avoided imitating his mentors. Samuthirakani, who has long worked with Sam, said, “This stage should have come to him sooner. The film has truth and feeling — it will do well,” while telling Dev not to worry about absent family: “Their blessings are with you.”

The cast includes Devika Satheesh in her first Tamil feature, Akash Premkumar, Badava Gopi, VJ Nikki, Yuvaraj Ganesan, Nidhi Pradeep and others. Badava Gopi, cast as the heroine’s father, said the shoot was “light and meticulous.” Akash Premkumar, who plays Madhan, said he had also recorded a song for the film. Stunt coordinator Danger Mani and choreographer Raghu Thapa both credited the crew’s planning for a smooth schedule.
Writer Rams Murugan said the film pivots on a “what-if” moment — “an event you wouldn’t imagine happening in life” — that frames a largely light-toned romance. The screenplay is by S. Sam, Rams Murugan, P. Panbu Selvan and producer Mahesh Selvaraj. The technical crew includes cinematographer Sooraj Nallusami, editor AL Ramesh and art director M. Devendiran.
Yolo — One story, one choice, one life, as the trailer tag puts it — aims to fold a modest fantasy twist into a contemporary rom-com. Its reception will turn on whether that balance connects with audiences when it reaches theatres on 12 September.
