Streaming platform ZEE5 has officially commenced production on its latest bilingual original series, “Once Upon A Time in Kayamkulam.” Produced by Rise East Production House, the series is being shot simultaneously in Tamil and Malayalam, marking another addition to the streamer’s expanding regional portfolio.
Helmed by director Ameen Barif, “Once Upon A Time in Kayamkulam” is billed as a rustic heist comedy. The narrative aims to blend earthy, local humor with the fast-paced thrills associated with the heist genre. According to the makers, the show is designed with modern storytelling sensibilities to appeal to the evolving OTT audience, promising a mix of laughter and suspenseful twists.
The series features an extensive ensemble cast including Anbuselvan, Subash, Ramesh Madhavan, and Winsu Rachel in pivotal roles. The cast is rounded out by Rakesh Ushar, Gowthami Nair, Savithri, Vijay Sathya, Arun, and Vigneshwar.
Filming is currently underway at a brisk pace. ZEE5 has targeted the series for a festive New Year release window, positioning it as a key title in their upcoming slate for both Tamil and Malayalam markets.
