THE BED MOVIE REVIEW

Cast: Srikanth, Shrusti Dange, Black Pandi, VJ Pappu, John Vijay, Devi Priya

Director: S. Manibharathi

Rating: 3/5

Four friends head to Ooty for a weekend, bringing along Shrusti Dange who works in prostitution. While his buddies have one thing on their minds, Srikanth falls for her and keeps them at bay. When she vanishes suddenly, followed by one of the friends, the trip turns into a missing persons case with cop John Vijay stepping in to investigate.

Director S. Manibharathi splits the film between romance and thriller territory without committing fully to either. The first half leans on the awkward dynamics of the group, though Black Pandi and VJ Pappu’s comedy attempts mostly miss. Srikanth looks like he’s fulfilling a contract obligation rather than inhabiting the character, perking up only during tense moments. Shrusti Dange handles the glamour requirements capably while keeping things restrained given the premise.

Once the disappearances kick in, the film shifts into investigation mode. The thriller elements generate mild curiosity, though the police procedural aspects lack urgency. John Vijay plays his usual no-nonsense cop while Devi Priya supports adequately as his deputy. The mystery itself offers a few turns but nothing that lands with real impact.

Gokul’s cinematography showcases Ooty’s scenic locations effectively, perhaps lingering too much on the actress in certain frames. Taj Noor’s background score works in stretches, and one friendship song manages to be catchy. The runtime stays reasonable at two hours.

Credit to Manibharathi for avoiding vulgarity despite centering the story around a sex worker, though some dialogue about women reportedly crosses into problematic territory. The film treats its premise with more decorum than you’d expect, even if the execution never rises above functional. For those curious about an Ooty-set thriller with romantic undercurrents, The Bed passes time without leaving much impression.
