The trailer and audio for the upcoming drama Promise were officially unveiled today at a launch event in Chennai. Produced by N. Nagarajan under the banners of Sangamithran Productions and Amman Arts Creations, the film marks the directorial debut of Arunkumar Sekaran, who also stars in the lead role alongside Nathiya Somu.

Billed as a story centered on the sanctity of truth, Promise explores the consequences of vows in personal relationships. Speaking at the event, director Arunkumar Sekaran described the project as a labor of love from a small, dedicated team without major financial backing. “We don’t have a massive budget or big stars. I moved from media work to making a pilot film, which eventually led me to my producer,” Arunkumar shared. He credited his producer for trusting a newcomer and his female lead, Nathiya, for her support during the production’s most difficult phases.

The event was attended by industry veterans including director Perarasu and producer K. Rajan. Perarasu praised the film’s core theme, noting, “The trailer suggests a strong story. In a time where people fear little for the weight of their words, a film emphasizing the value of a promise is relevant.” He commended the music by Saravana Deepan, stating that the songs bridge the gap to the audience’s heart.

The technical crew includes cinematographer Vinoth Kumar and editor Sriram Vignesh. Lyricist Paala, who penned the songs, argued against the notion that songs are “speed breakers” in modern cinema, asserting they provide essential mileage to a film’s narrative.

While celebrating Promise, the guests also touched upon broader industry issues, with Perarasu and K. Rajan expressing concern over the trend of re-releasing blockbusters overshadowing smaller, direct releases, and calling for a fair resolution to the certification delays facing the high-profile film Jananayagan.
