Legend Saravanan’s second feature film has been officially titled Leader, with the title and first glimpse unveiled at a launch event in Chennai attended by press and fans. The commercial entertainer, directed by R.S. Durai Senthilkumar, is set for a worldwide theatrical release in April 2026 across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
Speaking at the event, Saravanan addressed speculation about the title’s political connotations. “The moment you see the title Leader, you might wonder if this is a political film,” he said. “There is not a single political scene or dialogue in this movie. This is purely a commercial entertainer. The glimpse we have released today is like a grain of rice that tells you how the whole pot tastes. The entire film will be like this.”

The film follows an innocent father and son living a contented life until a powerful gang disrupts their world. Saravanan praised his director’s screenplay work, noting that while stories are plentiful, crafting a screenplay that resonates with contemporary audiences is the real challenge. “From the first scene to the last, the director has meticulously sculpted every moment,” he said.
Director Durai Senthilkumar revealed that discussions with Saravanan began in September 2022, with production commencing several months later. He described discovering a side of the businessman that surprised him. “Initially, I thought he had come to acting just to fulfil a desire,” the director explained. “But through our continued conversations, I realised he observes every aspect of cinema with great attention to detail. He understood then that this was not merely a hobby.”
The director also shared a personal anecdote about Saravanan’s childhood ambition. When Saravanan was in fifth or sixth grade, he had pasted photographs of Hindi film stars on his wall. When his mother asked about them, he told her he would become like them one day. Despite building a retail empire in the years that followed, Saravanan never abandoned that childhood dream.

Music composer Ghibran Vaibodha, who previously worked on Saravana Stores advertisements, spoke about the responsibility of scoring a film with such widespread anticipation. “Many people who met me urged me to deliver exceptional music,” he said. “They reminded me that family audiences would flock to watch his film, so both the songs and background score needed to be special.” He added that Tamil cinema had been missing films of this genre for some time, and Leader aims to revive that space.
A.M. Vikramaraja, president of the Tamil Nadu Federation of Trade Associations, attended as chief guest. He described Saravanan as someone who rose to become Asia’s leading retailer through relentless hard work, rather than inheriting success.
The film was shot across multiple locations including Thoothukudi for 40 days, Georgia for 15 days, and additional schedules in Jaipur, Chennai, and Ooty. The cast includes Shaam, Andrea Jeremiah, Payal Rajput, Santosh Prathap, Lal, Amritha Aiyer, VTV Ganesh, and child actor Iyal. Technical credits include cinematography by S. Venkatesh, editing by Pradeep E. Ragav, and art direction by G. Durairaj. The first single is scheduled for release on February 14, with a full glimpse following on March 6 and a grand audio launch planned before the April release.
