Mustafa Mustafa, the upcoming Tamil comedy starring Sathish, takes its name from a song most people will instantly recognize. The AR Rahman track from Kadhal Desam has been synonymous with friendship for over two decades, and the film leans into that association. “We built the story around friendship, keeping that song in mind,” Sathish said ahead of the March 6 release.
The film pairs Sathish with Suresh Ravi as the two leads in what’s being pitched as a friendship comedy. They’re joined by three actresses: Monica Chinnakotla, Mahima, and Madhavi. Madhavi described it as a wall-to-wall comedy. “In most films, the humour is scattered here and there,” she said. “This one has it from start to finish. The director gave us wonderful characters.” Mahima offered a simpler pitch: “You’ll walk out of the theatre laughing.”

Mustafa Mustafa marks the directorial debut of Praveen Saravanan, who cut his teeth as co-director on Balaji Mohan’s Maari 2. Music composer MS Jones Rupert, now on his third consecutive film with Sathish, handles the soundtrack. The film is produced by Pradeep Mahadevan’s The Mapogos Company and distributed by Sakthi Film Factory.
Sathish, who has been building a parallel career as a leading man alongside his comedy work, used the occasion to share a personal note. “I’ve never touched a cigarette or alcohol in my life,” he said. “I’m not saying it to boast. But if even four people hear this and decide to drop the idea, I’d be happy.” He also spoke about the film’s respect for its female characters, saying women are “not equal to men, but above them.”
Mustafa Mustafa releases in theatres on March 6.
