Thaam Thoom, the 2008 action entertainer that marked Kangana Ranaut’s debut in Tamil cinema, is returning to theaters on April 10. The film, directed by the late cinematographer-turned-director Jeeva and starring Ravi Mohan, will be re-released in a digitally remastered format with 5.1 surround sound across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.
Murugan Film Factory, run by Salem-based distributors Kandasamy and Balasubramani, is handling the re-release. The duo, who also operate Grand Cinemas multiplex in Hosur, have experience distributing successful films in the Salem region and plan to follow Thaam Thoom with more theatrical re-releases in the coming months.
The film was shot extensively abroad and packed action sequences, romance, and a Harris Jayaraj soundtrack that produced several chartbusters. Harris Jayaraj was at the peak of his run in 2008, and the Thaam Thoom songs remain fan favourites nearly two decades later.

Kangana Ranaut, who was relatively unknown at the time, played the female lead opposite Ravi Mohan. She has since become one of Hindi cinema’s biggest names and a prominent political figure. The cast also included Raai Laxmi, Jayaram, Bose Venkat, and Pithamagan Mahadevan.
Director Jeeva began his career as a cinematographer on landmark films before moving to direction. Thaam Thoom was among the high-budget productions he helmed, produced by Mediaone Global Entertainment and Ayngaran International. It was a commercial entertainer that found particular resonance with younger audiences at the time of its release.
The digitally remastered version with upgraded audio aims to bring the film to a generation that missed it in theaters and offer a nostalgia trip for those who grew up with it. Thaam Thoom re-releases on April 10.
