Arasan, the crime-action thriller pairing Silambarasan TR with director Vetrimaaran for the first time, has moved into its second schedule. Shooting is currently underway in T. Nagar, Chennai, with the actor sharing behind-the-scenes stills from the set on social media.

The first schedule was filmed in Madurai, where Silambarasan reportedly appeared as Madurai Tiger, a character who sports a kabaddi player’s uniform. The film also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Andrea Jeremiah, Samuthirakani, Vikranth, Kishore Kumar G., and Chaithra J. Achar, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the score.

What makes Arasan particularly intriguing is its connection to Vetrimaaran’s Vada Chennai cinematic universe. Vetrimaaran has long spoken about expanding the world he built with Dhanush in Vada Chennai (2018), and Arasan is reportedly part of that larger narrative landscape. The film is being produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu under V Creations, reuniting the producer-director duo behind Asuran and Viduthalai.

Perhaps the most striking detail: the story of Arasan was written by Vetrimaaran even before Polladhavan, his 2007 directorial debut. That a script sat with one of Tamil cinema’s most acclaimed directors for nearly two decades before finding its way to the screen speaks to the kind of project this is.

With production moving at a steady pace, the team is reportedly planning to complete the shoot and release Arasan in theaters by the end of this year.
