Producer K. Rajan voiced strong criticism against the trend of using English titles for Tamil films during the audio and trailer launch event for the upcoming thriller Aghamozhi Vizhigal. He praised the film’s team, led by producer Paulos George and director Saseendra K. Shankar, for choosing a distinct Tamil title despite the producer hailing from Kerala. “Our Kerala brother keeps a Tamil title, [but] the Tamilian doesn’t know how to keep a Tamil title,” Rajan remarked, specifically citing recent examples like Good Bad Ugly and Retro. The event, held in Chennai, marked the promotional kick-off for Aghamozhi Vizhigal, scheduled for release on May 9th.
The film, produced under the Sachus Creations banner, stars newcomers Adam Hasan and Neha Rathnakaran. Director Perarasu, also speaking at the event, echoed concerns about the industry’s direction, advising filmmakers to “Trust the story… don’t make films just because my son should act, [or] my brother should compose music.” He stressed that films succeed based on content, not nepotism, and commended the Aghamozhi Vizhigal team for creating a visually appealing film on a smaller budget.

Adding another perspective, stunt master Jaguar Thangam defended the legacy of Tamil cinema against criticisms mentioned by other speakers. “MGR, Rajini, Kamal… Tamil cinema created them all. Don’t criticize Tamil cinema,” he urged, while also wishing success for the film due to its Tamil title. Concerns about the low success rate of films and the challenges faced by smaller productions in securing theatrical runs were also raised by speakers like distributor R.K. Anbalagan and theatre association secretary Trichy Sridhar.
Director Saseendra K. Shankar, though Malayali, spoke about his deep connection to Tamil Nadu. “My roots are Tamil… Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu are all languages that came from Tamil,” he stated, expressing his gratitude to producer Paulos George for backing his vision. He described Aghamozhi Vizhigal as a thriller centered around a visually impaired musician who seeks revenge when his lover faces trouble. Lead actor Adam Hasan shared insights into the challenging, multi-year shooting process, highlighting the director’s demanding nature in pursuit of perfection. Actor Neha Rathnakaran thanked the producer and director for the opportunity.
Aghamozhi Vizhigal features background music by veteran composer S.P. Venkatesh and songs by Jubair Muhammed. The film aims to deliver a gripping thriller experience when it releases in theatres next month.
