Filmmaker Takes on 21 Roles in “Vangala Viriguda Kurunila Mannan”

Gugan Chakravarthiyar, a filmmaker with a unique distinction in Tamil cinema, unveiled his latest project, “Vangala Viriguda Kurunila Mannan,” at a recent audio and trailer launch event in Chennai. Chakravarthiyar boasts an impressive 21 credits on the film, encompassing roles as varied as director, cinematographer, lyricist, and costume designer.

Inspired by the vision of former Indian president Abdul Kalam, the film promises audiences a culturally significant cinematic experience. Industry figures, including writer-director TK Shanmugham and lyricist Snehan, were among the guests in attendance at the launch event.

“Gugan Chakvarthiyar has excelled in 21 different crafts…he has showcased his talent in cinematography, lyric writing, and delivering profound philosophical songs, showcasing his incredible abilities,” remarked Shanmugham during the event.

The film has generated buzz for Chakravarthiyar’s multi-faceted contributions. “Gugan’s capabilities are limitless, as he has single-handedly achieved remarkable accomplishments,” noted Shankar of Netflix Tamil Nadu.

Chakravarthiyar himself described the core message of Vangala Viriguda Kurunila Mannan: “Instead of emulating my lifestyle, strive to live like the individuals portrayed in it.” He also revealed that the film includes a controversial personal opinion about Abdul Kalam.

While the film’s unique production and thematic elements have garnered attention, it remains to be seen how audiences will receive this ambitious project.
