Actor Harish Kalyan, fresh off the success of Lubber Pandhu, has unveiled the title of his 15th feature film, Dashamakan. Directed by Vineeth Varaprasad, known for the thriller Lift, the film plunges into the gritty, rhythmic world of North Chennai’s rap culture. Produced jointly by IDAA Productions and Think Studios, the title promo and first look were officially launched at a press event in Chennai.
Dashamakan casts Kalyan in the role of a rapper, a significant departure from his previous romantic avatars. The film derives its name from a well-known locality in Chennai. Speaking at the event, Kalyan acknowledged the challenge of the role. “There is a rich history of rap in Tamil music, and many indie artists are making waves today. They were my inspiration,” Kalyan stated. He admitted that the director initially hesitated to cast him, doubting if he fit the rugged profile, but Kalyan insisted on taking the role, undergoing a significant physical transformation.

Varaprasad describes the film as an exploration of the city’s raw underbelly. The production scale is ambitious, with the director noting that over 100 actors and eight authentic rap artists have been introduced in the project. Stunt director Om Prakash revealed that the film features a massive climax fight sequence involving 1,000 people, filmed as a single shot, highlighting the scale of the action choreography.
The ensemble cast includes Preity Mukhundhan as the female lead, alongside veteran actors Sathyaraj and Sunil in pivotal roles. The music is composed by Britto Michael, with cinematography by Karthik Ashokan and editing by G. Madan. Currently in the final stages of post-production, Dashamakan aims to deliver a raw, musical action experience.
