The trailer for Indian 2 arrived on Tuesday, and with it, Kamal Haasan returns as the vigilante Senapathy, ready to take on a new era of corruption in India. Speaking at the trailer launch, Haasan didn’t shy away from acknowledging the inspiration behind the film’s theme. “I thank Indian politics for giving us the fuel to make such films,” he remarked, adding, “I feel corruption is so rampant even today, which makes the return of the vigilant ‘Indian Thatha’ through Indian 2 even more meaningful.”
The trailer itself echoes Haasan’s sentiments, showcasing Siddharth’s character grappling with a system plagued by injustice. This sets the stage for Senapathy’s return, declaring a “second war of independence” against the forces that threaten India’s progress. Action-packed sequences and glimpses of Haasan in various disguises promise a thrilling cinematic experience, reminiscent of the original Indian while offering a fresh perspective on contemporary issues.
Haasan, reflecting on the film’s prolonged production, explained, “It was not due to any actors or technicians of the film, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, accidents on the sets, and several other unexpected causes.” He gave a shoutout to Lyca Productions and Red Giant Movies for sticking with us through Indian 2 and Indian 3.
The actor also took a moment to remember colleagues who sadly passed away during the film’s making. “It feels like it was just yesterday that I shot a few scenes with Vivekh,” Haasan shared, referring to the late actor. “He, along with Manobala and Nedumudi Venu, should have been here with us to see its success.”
Indian 2, directed by Shankar and featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, is set to release on July 12, 2024. With a cast that includes Rakul Preet Singh, Kajal Aggarwal, and Priya Bhavani Shankar, the film carries high expectations.
