Former Union Minister and animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi made a compelling case for animal consciousness at the audio launch of Kooran, a film centered on a dog’s legal rights struggle. The event was held at a Chennai hotel, with the film set for theatrical release on December 27.
“Every living being feels sadness, happiness, fear, and desires a peaceful life,” says Gandhi, who attended as the special guest. “I have seen dogs talk, not just dogs. Cats, chickens, snakes, pigs, donkeys – all of them have a language. They all communicate with each other. They all understand humans. But we ourselves do not understand them.”

The film features S.A. Chandrasekaran, Y.G. Mahendran, Sathyan, and Balaji Sakthivel in key roles. First-time director Nitin Vemupathi helms the project, with cinematography by Martin Dhanraj and music by Siddharth Vipin.
Gandhi called for government tax exemption for the film, noting its significance beyond entertainment. “This film should be shown to all lawyers and judges across India. It’s not a propaganda film – it’s lively and speaks to soft feelings.”

Producer Vicky backs the film under V.P. Combines for Kanaa Productions, with Dream Warriors handling distribution. The technical crew includes editor P. Lenin.
The launch event saw attendance from directors M. Rajesh, Ponram, actor Vijay Antony, producers Xavier Britto, Vimala Britto, and Jhansi, the dog who plays the lead role
