The upcoming film Kumki 2, a sequel to the 2012 hit, is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 14, marking the end of a difficult six-year production journey that was impacted by the global pandemic and significant logistical challenges.

Director Prabhu Solomon detailed the prolonged process at a recent event for the film. “This film is a long journey. It started in 2018, finished in 2019, and we showed it in December,” he recounted. “But in 2020-2021, the lockdown came… Corona came and turned everything upside down.” He explained that the disruption was so severe that the film’s data became disorganized and scattered across different locations. “The first reel’s hard disk would be in Bengaluru. We wouldn’t know which engineer had the next reel,” he said.

The production also faced physical demands, with the crew filming in a remote forest location in Nelliyampathy without electricity or mobile networks.

The film introduces a new lead actor, Mathi, who is the nephew of director N. Lingusamy. Producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios, who is backing the project, referred to the debutant as the “Hrithik Roshan of Tamil cinema.”

The music for Kumki 2 is composed by Nivas K. Prasanna. Prabhu Solomon praised the composer’s contribution, stating, “While everyone gave their best effort, Nivas K. Prasanna has given its soul. When you watch the film, you will see that his music has rewritten the story in many places.”

The cast also includes Sreetha Rao, Andrews, and Harish Peradi. The film is produced by Pen Studios.
