The music and trailer launch for the upcoming Tamil film Kuyili was held in Chennai, with Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol. Thirumavalavan attending as the chief guest to release the materials. The event took on a broader social dimension as producer K. Rajan used the platform to make a direct appeal for statewide alcohol prohibition.
Kuyili, directed by debutant P. Murugasamy and starring Lissy Antony in the lead role, is described as a film that portrays a mother’s struggle and raises awareness about the harms of alcohol.
Speaking at the event, producer K. Rajan addressed the issue directly. “This film was made to eradicate alcoholism,” he stated. He expressed concern over the societal impact of alcohol, noting, “Alcohol has ruined many families. Many families have been sacrificed.” He then made a public plea, saying, “I implore the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Alcohol must be abolished in some way.” Rajan also commented on what he perceives as a troubling trend, stating, “In the current situation, 20 to 25 percent of women have also started drinking. The country is going in a very bad direction in this matter.”

Director Balaji Sakthivel, for whom the film’s director P. Murugasamy previously worked as an assistant, also spoke at the event. He praised Murugasamy’s journey and social consciousness, and expressed a desire to see a biographical film made about the life of Thol. Thirumavalavan. “I wish to see the life story and autobiography of Thol. Thirumavalavan, a leader for all, made into a film. If anyone attempts this, I am ready to cooperate with them,” Balaji Sakthivel said.
Lead actress Lissy Antony shared that the film’s producer, V.V. Arunkumar, narrated the story to her directly and that she was the one who suggested the title Kuyili. Director P. Murugasamy credited his learning to his time with Balaji Sakthivel and his study of political thinkers, stating his goal was to create a meaningful work reflecting the lives of common people.

The film is produced by V.V. Arunkumar under the B M Film International banner. The music is composed by Ju Smith, who mentioned that all five songs in the film carry an anti-alcohol message. The cast also includes Ravi Sa, Dashmika, Deepthi, and Saravanan.
