Director Vetrimaaran has revealed that filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar has provided a voice-over for the upcoming film Mask, a project he is supervising. He also confirmed that the film’s “soul” is inspired by the speeches of the late actor M.R. Radha, whose rebellious persona serves as a thematic anchor for the narrative.
Speaking at an event for the film, Vetrimaaran explained how the project came together. “Andrea sent me a screenplay and said she was producing it. I read it to see what kind of story she would produce,” he recounted. He then brought in producer S.P. Chockalingam to co-produce with Andrea Jeremiah, who also stars in the film. The lead role is played by Kavin.

The film’s director, Vikarnan Ashok, noted Nelson’s behind-the-scenes involvement. “Nelson is a genre in himself. He is in this film, but no one will know,” Vikarnan said. Nelson, who was also present, shared his initial reaction to the script. “When I heard this story, I thought it had nothing to do with Vetrimaaran. It was a terribly mischievous story,” he remarked. “The story idea was very new.”
The film’s connection to M.R. Radha was a significant point of discussion. “M.R. Radha was a rebel; he spoke about many things. I am very happy that he has come into this film,” Vetrimaaran stated. “I asked Radharavi for permission, and he said it was okay if we portrayed him well. The issues M.R. Radha spoke about are the soul of this film. This film is the voice of the voiceless.”

The project is also a significant step for its lead actors. Kavin, who was cast before the release of his successful film Star, credited Vetrimaaran for his guidance. “He is very jolly; I thought of him as a friend,” Kavin said. Andrea, who is also co-producing, referred to Vetrimaaran as their “puppet master.”
Mask, which also stars Ruhani Sharma and Redin Kingsley, features music by G.V. Prakash Kumar and cinematography by R.D. Rajasekhar. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release on November 21.
