MYYAL REVIEW

Cast: Sethu, Samriddhi Tara, PL Thenappan, Rathnakala, CM Bala

Director: APG Elumalai

Rating: 2.5/5

Myyal kicks off with a pretty charming setup – a goat thief named Sethu literally falls into love (okay, first into a well, then into love) with Samriddhi, this mystic woman’s granddaughter who lives in the forest. The premise has legs.

For a good chunk of the film, the romance actually works. The whole outsider-meets-outsider dynamic clicks, especially when these two get their chemistry going. Sethu plays the lovable rogue pretty convincingly, and newcomer Samriddhi Tara is genuinely endearing – there’s something refreshingly authentic about her screen presence.

But then the movie tries to get all serious with this murder subplot involving corrupt cops and greedy villains, and that’s where things start falling apart. Director APG Elumalai can’t seem to decide if he’s making a love story or a crime thriller, so we get this weird mix that never quite gels.

What really saves the film though is Amargeeth’s music. The guy’s got serious talent – those romantic tracks will stick with you long after the credits roll.

Look, Myyal isn’t terrible. It’s got heart, decent performances, and some genuinely touching moments. It just needed someone to tighten the screws on that screenplay.
