Nilakanta, the action drama starring Master Mahendran, premieres on Sun NXT today in both Tamil and Telugu. The film, subtitled The Essence of Karma, had its theatrical release on 2 January in Telugu and now arrives on the streaming platform for a wider audience.

Mahendran began his career as a child artist in Tamil cinema, earning the prefix Master during his early years working alongside top stars. He became a household name after playing the young villain Bhavani in Vijay’s blockbuster Master, a role that arrived during the pandemic and pushed him firmly into the spotlight. Since then, he has been selective about his projects, prioritising story-driven films and working across Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam industries.

Written and directed by Rakesh Madhavan, Nilakanta centres on a humble tailor whose deep faith in karma is put to the test when an adversary turns his life upside down. The film follows his journey from a quiet, ordinary man to someone forced to confront violence on his own terms.

The cast includes Yashna Muthuluri and Neha Pathan opposite Mahendran, with veteran actors Subhalekha Sudhakar and Ramki in supporting roles alongside Babloo Prithiveeraj, Bharath Reddy, Satya Prakash, Chitram Seenu and Sivakarthik Thanda.

The film is produced by Marlapalli Srinivasulu and D. Venugopal under the LS Productions and Global Cinemas banners, with Anil Inamadugu as executive producer. Mark Prashanth has composed the music, while Sravan G Kumar handled both cinematography and editing.

The Sun NXT premiere is expected to extend the film’s reach well beyond its Telugu theatrical run, offering Tamil-speaking viewers their first chance to see Mahendran anchor an action drama as the lead.
