Actor Thaman Kumar is venturing into new territory with his upcoming film Park, a horror-comedy that promises to challenge genre conventions. The film, directed by EK Murugan and produced by E. Natraj of Akshaya Movie Makers, recently held its audio launch event in Chennai.

Kumar, who plays Mithran, a cable TV operator in Thiruvannamalai, expressed his excitement about the project. “This is my first foray into the horror genre, and I’m incredibly excited,” he said. “Park is a horror-comedy that deviates from the typical tropes associated with the genre.”

The story centers on Mithran and his coworker Yazhini, portrayed by Swetha Dorathy. Their office romance takes an unexpected supernatural turn during a visit to a park. Kumar hinted at the film’s unique elements, saying, “Swetha and I both take on ghostly forms in the film. I can’t divulge too much, but it’s safe to say things get interesting.”

Director EK Murugan explained his approach to the horror genre: “Usually in horror films, they use religious preachers to chase away ghosts. I moved away from that and made it run through an ordinary person, a person on the road.”

The film’s structure offers a mix of tones. “The first half is lighthearted and entertaining,” Kumar revealed. “The second half, however, takes a decidedly darker turn, delving into full-fledged horror.”

Park features a supporting cast including Ranjana Nachiar, Black Pandi, Neema Rey, Surendhar, Vijith, and Jayanthimala. Amara is composing the film’s score, with Pandian Kuppan as cinematographer.

At the audio launch, veteran director RV Udayakumar emphasized the importance of storytelling: “You can make a film for as many crores as you want. But more than that, it should have a good story and screenplay. That’s what’s important.”

The film extensively uses visual effects and CGI to bring its supernatural elements to life. While the release date is yet to be announced, Park is poised to offer audiences a fresh take on the horror-comedy genre.
