Ahead of its release this Friday, April 4th, the pre-release event for the RGV Saaree Movie was held, featuring insights from screenwriter Ram Gopal Varma and the team. Scripted by Ram Gopal Varma and directed by Giri Krishna Kamal, the film explores the complexities and potential dangers of social media interaction. “The core theme of Saaree is how the impact of social media affects relationships,” Ram Gopal Varma stated at the event. “Sometimes bad things can happen, leading to significant rifts. Many women, like the character Aaradhya in the film, may have been affected. That’s what Saaree addresses.”
Produced by Ravisankar Varma under the RGV RV Productions LLP banner, the film is described by its lead actor, Satya Yadu, as a “psychological thriller” focusing on “social media stalking.” Satya, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and makes his film debut with Saaree after working in television serials, added, “Not only women, but men too can relate this film to themselves.”
Lead actress Aaradhya Devi, who is from Kerala, plays a character also named Aaradhya, described as a ‘girl next door’. “I hope you all like the trailer and songs of Saaree,” she said. “This film talks about the negative and dark sides of social media. Women can definitely relate to this.” She thanked the director, referring to him as Ramu, for the opportunity.
Producer Ravisankar Varma briefly commented, “This is my first film with Ram Gopal Varma sir. Our aim is to create good films.”
The distribution network for the pan-India release (Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam) was also discussed. Shanu, handling the Kerala distribution, remarked on the film’s relevance: “They have captured exactly what is happening on social media now in this film.” He mentioned inviting Tamil Nadu distributor Vinoth to see the film. “We asked him to distribute in Tamil Nadu only if he liked it. He then said he would release it himself in over 100 centres.”
Vinoth, the Tamil Nadu distributor, confirmed his enthusiasm. “I am a fan of director Ram Gopal Varma. I really liked the film Saaree after watching it,” he stated. “I agreed to release the film myself in Tamil Nadu. This is my first film as a distributor, and I need your support.”
Saaree is set to open in theatres simultaneously across its four language versions on April 4, 2025.
