Chennai, March 31, 2025: The first look prologue for the upcoming film Sardar 2 was unveiled Monday at an event hosted by producers Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment. The film, a sequel to the successful Sardar, sees actor Karthi reprise his role as the titular spy, under the direction of P.S. Mithran, who also helmed the first installment. The event marked a significant step for the production, described as nearing completion.
Karthi expressed his enthusiasm for returning to the character, which he noted was inspired by real events. “I had a great affinity and special liking for the film, ever since it was titled Sardar,” Karthi stated, adding, “It was exciting to see P.S. Mithran creating a story based on this incident.” He highlighted the positive reception of the first film, where audiences appreciated “an onscreen spy protagonist fighting for the country instead of personal interests.” Looking ahead, Karthi revealed, “The second part will showcase Sardar getting involved in a much bigger war.” He also welcomed the addition of actor SJ Suryah to the cast, remarking, “I am glad to be collaborating with SJ Suryah sir.”
Director P.S. Mithran elaborated on the film’s narrative structure, explaining that Sardar 2 will function as both a prequel and a sequel. “The film will happen in the flashback sequence of Sardar, as well as his next mission in the present,” Mithran said. He confirmed the project’s expanded scope, thanking producer Lakshman Kumar for facilitating the “grand scale” production. Mithran also acknowledged Karthi’s commitment, particularly regarding the demanding makeup process, stating, “Karthi sir had to go through a lot during the filming of Sardar… However, he has again agreed to do the sequel with us.” On SJ Suryah’s involvement, Mithran noted, “He agreed to be a part of this film, even before the completion of narration. He has delivered a commendable performance.”
SJ Suryah described his role in Sardar 2 as “totally unique and different,” which sparked his interest during the narration. “He has created this film, which has an international backdrop, but with the nativity element,” Suryah observed. He spoke positively of the collaboration, mentioning, “I got an opportunity work with three best people – Hardworking Karthi sir, Producer Lakshman who never hesitates to deliver what the project needs, and director P.S. Mithran.” He also commented on Karthi’s dedication to the role, noting, “It nearly takes 2.5 hours for his makeup, but he would patiently go through the process for the best results.”
Producer S. Lakshman Kumar recalled the decision to pursue the sequel came shortly after the first film’s completion. “When Mithran narrated me the basic story stating that it will demand a larger canvas… I instantly gave a nod to get it materialized,” Lakshman said. He attributed the increased scale partly to the effort Karthi invested in the original, stating, “The process of makeover itself was complex for Karthi, and he has exerted more efforts for Sardar 2.”
Music director Sam C.S., who previously collaborated with Karthi on Kaithi and with Prince Pictures on other projects, returns for Sardar 2. “Spy Thrillers have always been my favourite genre,” Sam C.S. shared, expressing his pleasure in working with Mithran, Karthi, and the production house again. “Karthi sir is a man of clarity. I am so happy for being a part of this film,” he added.
Sardar 2, produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under Prince Pictures in collaboration with Ishan Saksena of IVY Entertainment, also features Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath, Rajeesha Vijayan, and Yogi Babu among its cast. The technical crew includes George C Williams handling cinematography and Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D’Souza choreographing the stunts.
