Selvaraghavan, one of Tamil cinema’s most distinctive directorial voices, will headline the first Tamil production from Kannada banner Sri Puranthana Film Productions. The untitled film will be directed by Srikanth Hunsur, who previously collaborated with the production house on the Kannada hit S/o Muthanna.

Sri Puranthana, headed by producer Hari Prasad B V, has been building a presence in Kannada cinema. S/o Muthanna, a family drama starring Pranam Devaraj and Rangayana Raghu, performed well when it released in September 2025 and currently holds an 8.1 rating on IMDB. The banner is also working on a Kannada project titled MGR. Entering Tamil cinema is a deliberate expansion, following a path that Kannada production houses like Hombale Films have taken to considerable success in recent years.

“Tamil cinema has always held a special place in the Indian film fraternity,” Hari Prasad said. “Venturing into Tamil cinema has long been a cherished aspiration for me as a producer, and I am delighted that this journey begins with this film.”

Selvaraghavan’s casting as the lead is the project’s most noteworthy detail. Known primarily for directing films that reshaped Tamil cinema in the 2000s, including Kadhal Kondein, 7G Rainbow Colony, Pudhupettai, and Aayirathil Oruvan, he is Dhanush’s elder brother and one of the few filmmakers whose work has a genuine cult following. He shifted to acting in 2022 with roles in Beast, Saani Kaayidham, and Bakasuran. His turn as Sangaiah in Arun Matheswaran’s Saani Kaayidham was particularly well received. Headlining a film as the protagonist, rather than playing a supporting character, marks a significant step in his acting career.

Charan Raj, a rising name in Kannada film music, will compose the soundtrack. Cinematography is by Skating Krishna, who also shot S/o Muthanna. Further cast and crew announcements are expected soon.
