“I asked the director, ‘Who is the Singapen?’ He said, ‘Listen to the story, and you’ll know.’ After hearing it, I realized the story itself is the real Singapen. There’s a Singapen in every home, and this film celebrates one such woman,” said actress Shilpa Manjunath at the promo meet for her upcoming film, Singapenne.

The film shines a light on the underrepresented topic of women’s participation in sports. Shilpa adds, “I was surprised they filmed actual matches instead of sets. Our young star, Aarthi, is a real-life sports champion – a national-level triathlete. She worked tirelessly. I play her coach, the one who pushes her forward. We need to champion women’s sports more.”

Producer turned filmmaker JSB Satish shared, “After three years, we’ve completed this film about the power of sports. We captured live national competitions – the real deal. We waited five months for Aarthi, who ultimately won a gold medal at the national triathlon.”

Ace Bhagyaraj graced the occasion as chief guest. The supporting cast includes Deepak Nambiar as the antagonist, Samuthiraknai in a key cameo, along with A. Venkatesh, Prem, and Senrayan.

With dialogues by Kabilan Vairamuthu, cinematography by N. K. Ekambaram, editing by K. L. Praveen, and music by Kumaran Sivamani (son of Drums Sivamani), Singapenne is set for release on March 8th.
