CHENNAI — A new anthology Tamil film Trauma, directed by debutant Thambithurai Mariyappan, is set to release worldwide on March 21. The medical crime thriller, which features three interconnected stories, had its music launch event in Chennai recently.

“I started this as a pilot project. After it turned out well, we developed it into a feature film,” said Mariyappan, who revealed he worked on the film while maintaining his regular job. “I would start film work at 7 p.m. every evening, and everyone joined me at that time.”

The film stars Vivek Prasanna, Poornima Ravi, Anand Nag, and Chandini Tamilarasan in key roles, with music composed by Raj Prathap. Alpha 3 Entertainment will be distributing the film.

“Trauma is an anthology movie with three stories and three settings. All of these are connected through interlinking,” explained Prathap at the music launch. “The film will offer a different experience for audiences.”

For Ilamaran of Alpha 3 Entertainment, this marks his first venture into film distribution. “I’ve been working in the film industry for 16 years. I was looking for a good film for my first distribution, and when I saw Trauma, I was first impressed by the songs. The story is equally good.”

Veteran actor-director K. Bhagyaraj, who attended the event as chief guest, appreciated the team’s decision to attempt a different subject. “Unlike others who typically choose love stories for their debut, Thambithurai has selected a different subject. I commend him for that.”

Chandini Tamilarasan, who plays a significant role in the film, praised the director’s vision. “Thambithurai is a talented director. The concept was quite impressive. He always maintains a positive attitude and managed to direct this film while handling other work.”

Vivek Prasanna, who plays the lead role, emphasized the importance of audience support for independent filmmakers. “The director worked beyond his capacity to create this film. For talented directors like Thambithurai to continue making films, the success of Trauma is essential. We need audience support for that.”

The film features cinematography by Ajith Srinivasan, who is also making his debut, while Mughanvel handled the editing. The project, produced by S. Uma Maheshwari under Turm Productions, includes four songs, with two appearing in the film and two serving as promotional tracks.
