The trailer for “Varunan – God of Water,” directed by Jayavel Murugan and starring Dushyanth Jayaprakash, was launched at a special event in Chennai. The film is set for worldwide theatrical release on March 14.

“This film tells an important story about water that remains relevant today and will continue to be for the next 50 years,” said actor Jayaprakash at the event. “We’ve created a compelling narrative around water cans, which have become essential in every household.”

Produced by Karthik Sridaran under Yakkai Films banner with co-production from Vaan Productions, the film features veteran actors Radha Ravi and Charanraj alongside Dushyanth Jayaprakash, Gabriella, Shankar Nag Vijayan, Haripriya, and Maheswari.

“The story is set in North Chennai and revolves around the clash between two water suppliers,” explained director Jayavel Murugan. “Radha Ravi plays a supplier from Madurai named Aandavar Water Supply, while Charanraj portrays John Water Supply, a local Chennai businessman.”

Producer Anbuselvan, who is releasing the film, praised the dedication of the team: “I watched ‘Varunan’ and was impressed with everyone’s performances. The director has crafted an excellent film centered around water cans, something found in every home today.”

The film features music by Bobo Shashi, with notable contributions including vocals from Yuvan Shankar Raja, G.V. Prakash Kumar, and Saindhavi. Cinematographer Sri Ram Santosh captured a technically challenging five-minute single-shot sequence, which the director and composer worked on for three days.

“When we began buying water with money, nature’s curse started chasing us – that’s the one-line theme of this film,” Murugan said. “We’ve tried our best to communicate messages about water conservation while showing the problems caused by water scarcity.”

Actress Haripriya, who plays a significant role, shared her emotional connection to the project: “This film is like magic to me. It’s my starting point, and my journey begins from here.”

Lead actor Dushyanth Jayaprakash noted how the film helped him overcome personal fears: “I had to perform action sequences at heights of 120 feet despite my fear of heights, and I danced under choreographer Sridhar’s direction despite being intimidated by him.”

The film’s tagline, “The world cannot exist without water,” underscores its environmental message while promising an entertaining theatrical experience.
