Actor Nakkhul is set to make his return to Tamil cinema with the upcoming fantasy comedy-drama Vasco Da Gama, scheduled for release on August 2. The film, directed by debutant RG Krishnan, promises a satirical take on societal issues.

At a recent press meet in Chennai, Nakkhul’s sister, veteran actress Devayani, expressed confidence in the project. “Nakkhul waits for the right time to showcase his performance, selecting the correct subject and directors,” she said, explaining her brother’s selective approach to roles.

The trailer, released by the makers, offers a glimpse into a world driven by greed and materialism. Nakkhul’s character is part of a brigade that takes a satirical oath to “keep drinking to contribute to the government’s [revenue], to divide the nation based on caste, religion and greed, and disrupt the peace of the people.”

The film features a strong ensemble cast including KS Ravikumar, Munishkanth, and Arthana Binu in pivotal roles. Vamsi Krishna appears as the antagonist, plotting an evil scheme that leads to a comedy of errors.

Vasco Da Gama has received a ‘U’ certificate from the Censor Board. The technical crew includes NV Arun MS Satish Kumar for music, NS Sathish Kumar for cinematography, and Tamil Kumaran for editing.

Producer Dato B Subaskaran, under the banner of 5656 Productions, is backing the project. The film’s release marks a significant moment for Nakkhul, who began his career with Shankar’s Boys and gained recognition with Kadhalil Vilunthen.
