Vijay Devarakonda, the young sensation who took the South Indian film industry by storm with his performances in Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam, recently engaged with the Chennai press to discuss his highly anticipated upcoming release, Family Star. The film, set to hit the screens on April 5th, marks Devarakonda’s return to the Tamil market after the resounding success of his previous ventures.
During the press meet, Devarakonda expressed his excitement about Family Star, stating, “If you enjoyed Geetha Govindam, this is Geetha Govindam on steroids. It’s 2 hours 40 minutes of non-stop entertainment. From start to end, you will laugh, enjoy the love story, and the humor.” The actor’s confidence in the project was evident, as he promised a film that would surpass the expectations set by his earlier collaborations with director Parasuram and producer Dil Raju.
Devarakonda also touched upon his journey in Tamil cinema, which began with the success of Arjun Reddy and reached new heights with Geetha Govindam. He expressed his gratitude towards the Tamil audience for their love and support, saying, “I’m grateful for all the love Tamil Nadu has given me, starting from Arjun Reddy, and especially for Geetha Govindam and Kushi. We’re sure you will enjoy Family Star.”
When asked about his plans to do a direct Tamil film, Devarakonda revealed, “I’m listening to some Tamil directors very soon. After this release, I’ve already heard some narrations. My next film with Gowtam Tinnanuri has some major Tamil actors, which will help me get back to communicating in Tamil like I did for Nota. In the next 6-7 months, I’ll be spending time with lots of Tamil actors on set. Next time, I aim to talk only in Tamil. That’s the goal.”
Producer Dil Raju also shared his thoughts on the film, saying, “Family Star is a simple film that will connect with every family, from lower to upper class. It has all the elements – madras filter coffee, idli, sambar, a proper full thali meal. Everyone will connect with this film because everyone is a family star in their own family.”
Devarakonda delved into the theme of the film, explaining, “In every family, there is one boy who fights for the family and changes their financial status and living standards. All of us have seen our parents struggle to give us an education and a better life than what they had. Family Star is about that one guy who is an extreme version of all of us. His love, naughtiness, and anger are all extreme. You will relate to him, but he is an exaggerated version. This is a family story, but not a soft story.”
The actor also discussed his process of selecting scripts and his interest in working with Tamil directors. He expressed his desire to do something young, entertaining, and age-appropriate, with a bit of everything, depending on the story.
Devarakonda’s personal life was also a topic of interest, with questions about his marriage plans and current relationship status. The actor clarified that while he intends to get married eventually, it won’t be in 2024, and that he looks forward to having a wife and kids in the future.
As Family Star gears up for its April 5th release in Telugu and Tamil, Vijay Devarakonda takes on a new challenge, stepping into the shoes of a relatable yet special character in a family-centric narrative.
