Dr. U.P. Srinivasan, a distinguished surgical gastroenterologist and robotic surgeon in Chennai, has stepped beyond the operating room to explore his artistic passions with the release of his music album, Jandamattaan. The album, acquired by leading music label Saregama, was launched at a star-studded event in Chennai, highlighting the intersection of medicine and creative expression.

“I am primarily a doctor, but I have always had an interest in the arts,” Srinivasan shared. He described the album‘s journey from a short story to a short film and ultimately a music album, stating, “I started this as a short story, then it evolved into a short film, and eventually, it became an album.” The inspiration for the project stems from a Nagercoil folktale about “the dance of midnight ghosts,” a story he heard from his grandmother during his childhood.

Srinivasan collaborated with friends, including director Aarish, to bring the folktale to life. “I am producing this with the help of my friends,” he said. “They even encouraged me to write the lyrics for the album. We have incorporated some social concepts into the grandmother‘s story and created this album.”

He further described the experience of creating the album amidst his busy medical career, adding, “Witnessing the extensive graphic work for this album has been a new experience in cinema for me. Now I am satisfied and happy when everyone appreciates the album. I hope the enthusiasm it generates will inspire me to explore this field further.”

The music for Jandamattaan was composed by H. Hoomar Ezhilan and H. Shajahan, with choreography by Master Suresh Sid. The launch event was graced by prominent figures from the film industry, including director Chimbu Deven, producer P.L. Thenappan, singer Mano, and director Mandhiramoorthy. Dr. Srinivasan’s multifaceted talents and his passion for storytelling, evident in the creation of Jandamattaan, showcase the potential for individuals to pursue their artistic aspirations alongside their professional endeavors.
