A new Tamil film addressing alcoholism and addiction through a blend of humor and social commentary premiered its trailer in Chennai, drawing praise from prominent directors in the industry. Bottle Radha, helmed by debut director Dinakaran Sivalingam, features Guru Somasundaram and Sanjana in lead roles.

“The first half of the film will make you laugh and the second half will make you think,” said acclaimed director Vetrimaaran at the trailer launch. “It has emerged as a vital film for our society, which is grappling with addiction.”

The film, produced by Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Productions and Balloon Pictures’ Arun Balaji, tackles substance abuse and its impact on families. “When Dinakar presented this story, its authenticity resonated deeply with me,” said Ranjith, who has witnessed numerous families affected by addiction. “The dialogues and situations feel intimate and real.”

Director Ameer revealed that he had previously researched for a similar project on alcoholism but decided to shelve it after watching Bottle Radha. “No other film could better portray the struggles of alcoholics,” he stated at the event.

Filmmaker Mysskin praised the screenplay and performances, particularly highlighting Guru Somasundaram’s portrayal. Director Lingusamy described the film as “both accessible and thought-provoking” and likened it to “a petition to the government.”

The film features music by Sean Roldan and includes supporting performances from John Vijay and Maaran.
