Kenatha Kaanom, directed by the late Suresh Sangaiah and starring Yogi Babu in the lead, is enjoying a strong theatrical run. The team recently came together to mark the film’s success, though the celebration carried the weight of the director’s absence. Suresh Sangaiah, best known for Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, passed away before he could see Kenatha Kaanom reach audiences.

“Director Suresh Sangaiah wanted this film to reach a wide audience, and that vision has been realised today,” Yogi Babu said. He credited the press for consistently encouraging him to move beyond conventional comedy into more experimental territory. “It’s because of that encouragement that I’ve been able to take on diverse, meaningful characters. I’ll continue choosing roles that mirror the lives and struggles of ordinary people.”

Yogi Babu thanked producer Ramesh Babu of RB Talkies for backing the project. “Producers of his calibre are a true boon to the industry,” he said. “I hope he continues to make many more films.”

Lovelyn Chandrashekar, who plays the female lead, spoke of the emotional weight behind the occasion. “There’s joy on one side, but we deeply miss Suresh Sangaiah sir on the other,” she said, urging everyone to support the director’s family. “I’m overwhelmed by the positive response to my performance in this film.”

Cinematographer V. Thiyagarajan offered a glimpse into what the shoot was like. Filming began at the peak of summer in intense heat, and Suresh Sangaiah battled recurring health problems throughout. “Even after receiving IV drips, he would return to set immediately and keep working,” Thiyagarajan said. He highlighted art director Surendar’s team for building realistic sets, including a house and temple that lent the film its authenticity. Villagers near the shooting location also provided support throughout the production.

Editor Ramar was initially uncertain about the project but signed on the moment he learned who was directing. “When I heard it was the director of Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, I agreed immediately,” he said.

Kenatha Kaanom is produced by Ramesh Babu under RB Talkies, with music by Nivas K. Prasana. The film continues its run in theatres.
