A gala function was held in Chennai to launch the Tamil trailer for the upcoming period film Razakar. All the top cast and crew were present to showcase their work. Bobby Simha, with a close shaved head and casual outfit, plays the lead in the film. Actresses Vedhika and Annusriya Tripathi were also present. Other attendees include actors John Vijay and Raj Arjun, producer Gudur Narayana Reddy, and director Yata Satyanarayana.

Razakar: A Silent Genocide of Hyderabad is a period film that takes place in the year following India’s independence in 1947. The trailer highlights the oppressive rule of the Nizam and the brutality of the Razakars towards the people. The film aims to shed light on this lesser-known part of our history and bring attention to it. It tells the story of the brave local freedom fighters and the strategic efforts of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel, without whom the region would have faced more bloodshed and struggled to join greater India.

During the event, Bobby Simha shared his initial unfamiliarity with the historical context of the film. He remarked, “When this project was presented to me, my knowledge of this history was quite minimal. As I gradually absorbed the details shared by the director and producer, the enormity of the injustice struck me profoundly. I realized my involvement was not just a choice but a necessity.” Echoing Simha’s sentiments, Gudur Narayana Reddy highlighted the lack of awareness among the younger generation, pointing out, “A significant portion of our population, especially those aged between 18 and 35, remains unaware of the Razakars and this crucial period of our history.”

Razakar will come out in multiple languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. It has a tentative release date of March 2024.
