Vijay Antony wraps Mu. Maran's Appa Kutty, lines up an August release
Vijay Antony's Appa Kutty, directed by Mu. Maran and co-starring Preethi Asrani, has finished shooting and is now in post for an August 2026 release.
Vijay Antony’s next, “Appa Kutty”, has wrapped shoot and moved into post-production, with the makers fixing an August 2026 theatrical release. The film, directed by Mu. Maran of Iravukku Aayiram Kangal, is being framed as an action family drama built around the bond between a father and his daughter.
Vijay Antony plays the father, with Preethi Asrani in the female lead. The first look, which he put out on X with the line “A scarred face. A safe shoulder. Sometimes, that’s all love looks like,” sets the visual stake: a bruised, beaten-up Vijay Antony holding a sleeping child, the kind of pose that signals the film will earn its emotions with bodies on the line rather than just dialogue. The release is being lined up bilingually in Tamil and Telugu, with the Telugu title travelling as “Nanna Kutty”.
The ensemble takes in Preethi Asrani, Lithanya, Bagavathi Perumal (Baks), Haripriya Isai, Aruvi Madhan, Chitra Lakshmanan, Sreeja Ravi, Vettai Muthukumar, Jensan Diwakar, Muruganantham, Munnar Ramesh, Lissy Antony, Kumar Natarajan, Vijayan, Praveena, Haritha and Haripriya in pivotal roles. Vijay Antony has scored the film and is also handling editing, in keeping with his standard practice. Rajeev Rajendran is the director of photography, A. Raja the production designer and Rajasekar the stunt choreographer. The film is produced under the Vijay Antony Film Corporation banner, with Meera Vijay Antony presenting.
Mu. Maran is back in the director’s chair for the first time in a while, after a run that started with Iravukku Aayiram Kangal. For Vijay Antony, this is another swing at the emotionally driven content space he has been camped in across his recent run as a lead.
