Kara nudges past 13 crore in two days as occupancy curves up

Day 2 occupancy for Kara jumped from 20% to 30%, but with a reported 100-crore budget the long weekend is now the real test for Dhanush's heist drama.

Dhanush’s Kara has stepped up on Day 2. The Vignesh Raja heist-drama added an estimated ₹6.95 crore on Friday after opening to ₹6.20 crore on Thursday, taking the two-day India net to ₹13.15 crore and the gross to ₹15.20 crore. The shape of the week matters more than the raw figure: occupancy across India climbed from 20.2% on opening day to 29.7% on Friday, with evening shows pulling noticeably stronger numbers as word of mouth filtered through.

The arithmetic is harder than the trend. Trade trackers have pegged Kara’s reported budget at around ₹100 crore, with a hit verdict requiring an India theatrical of roughly ₹200 crore. That puts the long weekend, with a Saturday and Sunday boost expected, in the position of having to do the heavy lifting from here. Dhanush’s previous outing Idli Kadai closed at around ₹50 crore in India and ended in losses, so a Kara recovery curve is being watched as much for what it says about Dhanush’s pricing power as for the film itself.

The Kara cast around Dhanush’s Karasaami includes Mamitha Baiju as Selli, Jayaram, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunaas, Sreeja Ravi, Prithvi Pandiarajan and MS Bhaskar. Vignesh Raja and Alfred Prakash share the writing credit; GV Prakash Kumar scores; Theni Eswar shoots; Sreejith Sarang cuts; Mayapandi designs the production. The film is set against the 1991 Gulf War-era Tamil Nadu fuel crisis, which is the spine its first half leans on.

The next 48 hours are the real readout.
