Karuppu past Rs 161 crore in five days, Suriya's highest-grosser ever

Karuppu has crossed Rs 161 crore worldwide by day 5, passing Singam 2 to become Suriya's highest-grossing film and the top Tamil grosser of 2026.

Karuppu past Rs 161 crore worldwide by day five, breaking Suriya's thirteen-year-old Singam 2 record.

Karuppu has crossed Rs 161 crore in worldwide gross by the end of day five, the number that makes it the highest-grossing Suriya film ever and the top Tamil grosser of 2026 so far. The Tuesday net was Rs 12.75 crore in India across 6,093 shows, a 10.8 per cent drop from Monday. The drop is shallow enough to keep the run looking like a hold rather than a fade.

The day-by-day in India net reads cleanly: Rs 15.5 crore on Friday’s late-start opening, Rs 24.15 crore on Saturday (a 51 per cent jump that flipped the conversation), Rs 28.35 crore on Sunday, Rs 14.30 crore on Monday, and Rs 12.75 crore on Tuesday. India net stands at Rs 95.05 crore, India gross at Rs 110.04 crore, and Tamil Nadu gross alone past Rs 80 crore. Overseas has added Rs 46 crore, putting worldwide gross at Rs 161.04 crore.

The Singam 2 record is the one that fell. RJ Balaji and Suriya’s film passed the Rs 120-122 crore worldwide ceiling that Hari’s 2013 sequel held for thirteen years, with no Suriya release in between coming close. Kanguva closed on Rs 105-110 crore, Retro finished at Rs 97.35 crore, and Etharkkum Thunindhavan landed at Rs 71.40 crore. Singam 3 and 24, the two Suriya films sitting closest to Singam 2 before this, were on Rs 113 crore and Rs 118 crore worldwide. Karuppu has cleared the entire backlog in five days.

The Rs 200 crore line is the next number the trade is pointing at, with weekend bookings looking firm. If that lands, Karuppu becomes the first Suriya film to cross it, in a career that since 2013 has been defined by streaming-prestige titles and theatrical near-misses. Our review of the film called it a star vehicle that genuinely earns its star, and the Tuesday number says the audience is agreeing.
