Kumaran Thangarajan, who earned strong reviews for his lead role in Kumaara Sambavam last year, is moving into darker territory with his next project. The actor has signed on for an untitled investigative thriller directed by Mano Ve Kannathasan, who previously helmed the murder mystery Irudhi Pakkam. The film, Insomniac’s Dream Creations’ third production, went on floors with a pooja ceremony this week.
Kannathasan has said the film will explore a narrative space not previously attempted in Tamil thrillers, though specific plot details remain under wraps. The story unfolds across Trichy and Perambalur, with the shoot planned extensively in those regions for authenticity.

Thangarajan became a household name through the long-running Tamil serial Pandian Stores before transitioning to cinema. Kumaara Sambavam, a comedy drama directed by Balaji Venugopal, opened to positive reviews and sits at 8.7 on IMDB, establishing him as a credible big-screen lead. The jump from comedy to crime thriller marks a deliberate shift in the kind of roles he’s pursuing.
Joining him in the cast are Smeha and Rajesh Balachandran in lead roles, with Abhishek Joseph Sathya in a supporting part. Lokesh Elangovan handles cinematography, Ram Pandian is editing, and Jones Rupert composes the music. The makers have said more cast and crew details will follow.
