Meghana Raj brings Chiranjeevi Sarja's Rajini dream to the Jailer 2 set
Meghana Raj has confirmed her role in Jailer 2 with an Instagram tribute on her eighth wedding anniversary, framing the film as fulfilling Chiranjeevi Sarja's dream of being in a Rajinikanth project.
On Saturday, Meghana Raj Sarja’s eighth wedding anniversary, she went on Instagram and confirmed what had been reported in November: she is in Jailer 2, the Nelson-directed sequel to the 2023 Rajinikanth film. The post turned a casting confirmation into a tribute. Her late husband, the Kannada actor Chiranjeevi Sarja, was a Rajinikanth fan, and appearing in his film together was something the couple had spoken about. He died of cardiac arrest in June 2020, four months before the birth of their son.
“You worshipped him! And you made me meet the god of Indian cinema in a way i didn’t even dream of! A film with the ONE AND ONLY, RAJINI SIR! We did it!” she wrote, addressing Chiranjeevi.
The post carried stills from the Jailer 2 set with Rajinikanth, including frames with her son, and a video of Rajinikanth autographing a Baashha statue that had belonged to Chiranjeevi. The tribute opened with a quieter line: “This anniversary is not just a date, Chiru… it’s a feeling. The day we decided that your dreams and mine would no longer be separate, that we are one.”
She closed it with the dedication.
“Today, I hope I’ve brought alive what we once dreamed together. Because this success, this milestone, this film… belongs to you. Happy Anniversary, my Babyma,” she added.
Jailer 2 wrapped its principal shoot in late April, with Vasanth Ravi reprising his role from the original. The Nelson sequel has been adding cast members through the spring run, alongside the Texla cohort that came in earlier. Meghana’s role in the film has not been described in detail, and the makers have not confirmed a release window.
Outside the Rajinikanth film, Meghana is in post-production on the long-delayed Malayalam project Ottakomban opposite Suresh Gopi. She debuted in Tamil with Kaadhal Solla Vandhen in 2010 and Uyarthiru 420 in 2011, and has worked steadily in Kannada and Malayalam in the years since, including the recent mystery thriller Tatsama Tadbhava with Prajwal Devaraj.
Jailer 2 is now in post-production. The release calendar has not been announced.
