Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer: Nayanthara is the goddess and the cop
Sundar C takes over from RJ Balaji, sets mythical villains loose on Earth, and opens the film on November 6, a day after Ramayana. Five languages, one goddess.
The Mookuthi Amman 2 trailer gives Nayanthara two jobs. She is back as the goddess with the golden trident, and she is also a police officer who flinches at small things, including sleeping alone. When something ancient comes for children and ordinary people, the frightened cop and the goddess end up fighting the same war. The film opens in theatres on November 6.
The trailer, titled World of Mahasakthi, went up on Wednesday and plays at a very different scale from the 2020 original, which RJ Balaji directed, co-starred in and released straight to streaming. Sundar C has taken over the franchise, and the footage has his fingerprints all over it: a temple corridor running with gold, a wall of water, a flaming head, and crowds of devotees swarming a line of police.

The threat comes from Regina Cassandra and Duniya Vijay, cast as mythical villains who descend on Earth to destroy it and grow more powerful in the process. Urvashi, Yogi Babu, Abhinaya, Myna Nandini and Singampuli are part of the larger ensemble.

Hiphop Tamizha, Sundar C’s regular composer, scores the film. Gopi Amarnath is the cinematographer, Fenny Oliver edits, Rajasekar K handles the stunts and Venkatt Ragavan has written the screenplay and dialogue. Ishari K. Ganesh produces under Vels Film International. The project was first announced early last year.

The date puts the goddess in the middle of Diwali traffic. Mookuthi Amman 2 releases in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi on November 6, the same day as Suriya’s Scene, and one day after Ramayana arrives across the country.
