Sarathkumar's 171st film locks two banners and a Nov 15 start
Sarathkumar's 171st film pairs P.L. Thenappan's Sree Rajalakshmi Films with co-producer Presidential Movies International. Shooting starts November 15.
A film count of 171 is its own headline. Sarathkumar has now put a number on the next one, and it arrives with two production houses behind it rather than one. His 171st film will be made by P.L. Thenappan’s Sree Rajalakshmi Films, with Presidential Movies International coming on board as co-producer, and the two banners confirmed the partnership through Sarathkumar’s Instagram and Thenappan’s YouTube channel.
Presidential Movies International is chaired by producer Anup Mohan, who is backing the project alongside Thenappan. The draw here is Thenappan himself: a producer with decades of releases to his name, joining a film already carrying an actor whose career stretches across generations and shows no sign of thinning out, from the sea-set thriller Aazhi to the still-pending Kombuseevi. Two hands on the purse strings usually means a bigger canvas, and the makers have signalled they intend to build one.
Rahul Chakravarthy directs, working from a story by Vijay Bhargav. The rest of the announcement was the part that matters most for a project fresh off a title reveal: a date. The team has committed to rolling cameras on November 15, which turns the tie-up from a poster into a production with a clock on it.
That is the stake worth watching. Announcements like this land often; the ones that hold their start date are rarer. With a co-producer signed, a director attached and a November 15 call sheet on the record, Sarathkumar’s 171st has already cleared the hurdle most first-look posters never do.
