Director Sundar C and actor Vadivelu are collaborating again after a significant interval for the upcoming Tamil comedy film Gangers, set for a worldwide release on April 24. Speaking at a pre-release event held at A.C.S. Medical College before an audience of students, Vadivelu addressed their time apart. “Myself and Sundar C brother haven’t joined for 15 years,” he stated, adding, “The gap doesn’t feel significant. This film feels as fresh as Winner [a previous collaboration] made yesterday.”
Sundar C, who also acts in the film, described the premise as exploring “what if we did something like Money Heist in Tamil, set in a small town with characters like an auto driver and a teacher.” He revealed the film’s title originated casually from Vadivelu himself. “When we were struggling with what title to keep, Vadivelu brother suggested ‘Gangers’ in passing, and we fixed it,” Sundar C explained during the event. He also noted the project came together quickly, moving to production within three weeks of the initial discussion with Vadivelu.

The film is produced by Khushbu Sundar under the Avni Cinemax banner and A.C.S. Arunkumar for Benz Media PVT LTD. A.C. Shanmugam, associated with the event’s venue and Benz Media, remarked on the collaboration, stating, “Benz Media is proud to bring these two together.”
Gangers features Vadivelu in a character named Singaram, which promotional material suggests will be distinct, akin to his well-known roles like Kaipulla. The cast also includes Catherine Tresa and Vani Bhojan. Tresa, who plays a school teacher, commented on working with Vadivelu: “I am a fan of Vadivelu sir… watching him get into character up close was an amazing experience. It was a privilege to act with him.” Vani Bhojan expressed gratitude for the opportunity, adding, “Sundar C sir is a very simple, sweet person.”

Several members of the cast and crew spoke at the event, including actors Mime Gopi, Munishkanth, and Bucks (Bhagavathi Perumal), who praised Sundar C’s direction and approachable nature. Writer Venkat Raghavan noted the smooth pre-production process, stating, “Everything fell into place automatically for this film.” The technical team includes composer C. Sathya, cinematographer Esakki Krishnasamy, and editor Praveen Antony.
Both Sundar C and Vadivelu emphasised the film’s aim to entertain audiences, with Vadivelu assuring attendees, “All the ingredients you need are in the film. This is a film to be watched and celebrated together in theatres.” The pre-release function served to introduce the film and its key collaborators ahead of its scheduled release later this month.
