The makers say the thriller received an A certificate with just 13 seconds of cuts.

Lyricist Piriyan returns to the screen with Veguli, a thriller written and directed by Issack and set to release in theatres on November 20.

Piriyan, known for songs including Mascara and Makkayala, previously played the lead in Aranam. Veguli brings him together with Issack, who made the Guinness-recognised single-take film Agadam and later directed Aari in Nagesh Thiraiyarangam.

The makers say Veguli draws on a disturbing real incident that attracted national attention, with Issack building the thriller around a screenplay designed to keep viewers guessing. According to the team, the film has received an A certificate after 13 seconds of cuts.

Divya Chandran stars alongside Piriyan, while Boys Manikandan plays the antagonist, described by the team as his first villain role. Chaplin Balu returns after a gap in a significant part. Imman Annachi plays a Muslim character, while Danny’s role involves a man caught in trouble with the police.

Poovaiyar, who also starred in Ram Abdullah Antony, plays a character the makers describe as central to a turning point in the story. Sharmila, Erode Saravanan and Cheranraj are also part of the ensemble.

Thamizh Thiraikkoodam, which backed Aranam, is producing Veguli, with Vijaya Sharavanan of Vedha Films as co-producer. Shameel J has composed the music, Nagarjun handles cinematography, Devaraj the editing and Natraj the art direction.

The songs and teaser are already out. Issack says he is confident that the film’s combination of story, screenplay and dialogue will connect with audiences. The official teaser offers an early look at the thriller:
