Vettuvam crosses three eras in Pa. Ranjith's new glimpse

Pa. Ranjith’s Vettuvam turns a struggle for leadership into a story that crosses three eras. The newly released World of Vettuvam video sketches rival groups, an Indra Vizha contest and the consequences of power changing hands. It is the clearest look yet at the film’s apocalyptic setting and its mix of action and science fiction.

The action draws on Adi Murai and Mallakhamb. According to the team, the performers trained in these disciplines so the fights would grow out of the film’s world rather than sit apart from it. The conflict extends across past, present and future, with the rival groups’ traditions carrying through the different periods.

There is a different narrator for each language version of the introduction. Ranjith speaks for the Tamil video, Pankaj Tripathi for Hindi, Rana Daggubati for Telugu, Soubin Shahir for Malayalam and Kiccha Sudeep for Kannada. Their voices introduce the world before audiences meet the characters in the film itself.

VR Dinesh leads a cast that includes Arya, Sobhita Dhulipala, Shabeer Kallarakkal and Kalaiyarasan. Dinesh worked with Ranjith on Attakathi, while Arya returns after Sarpatta Parambarai. Following the historical setting of Thangalaan, Ranjith is taking his interest in how communities fight over land and power into a more openly imagined world.

G.V. Prakash Kumar has composed the music, with Roopesh Shaji shooting the film, Selva R.K. editing, S.S. Murthi designing its sets and Dhilip Subbarayan directing the action. The video credits Santhosh Narayanan Chenthilkumar as co-writer and Franklin Jacob for the dialogue. Neelam Productions and Learn and Teach Production are producing the film.

Vettuvam is planned for a December 2026 release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
